Introduction

Once again Qarshi University has taken the lead and is introducing MS Hospital Management. This is 2-Year degree, having 4 semesters and is designed to train mid level and senior hospital mangers and any other person who fulfills the basic requirements and who wishes to improve his/her qualification. It aims to enable participants to understand the role and functions of hospitals and to study strategic management planning and policy issues that arise in the development of contemporary hospital and healthcare systems.

Scope

A hospital is an industrial unit and is growing fast. New hospitals are emerging both in public and private sectors. An industrial unit needs to be run on scientific lines for which proper infrastructure including trained manpower is a basic requirement. In Pakistan not sufficient importance is given to this sector to run it properly, especially of its commercial importance. Apart from a management team, optimal utilization of resources and delivering quality service is another issue that needs to be dealt with. It is envisaged that the course will provide opportunity of exposure to course participants to get sufficient exposure to modern management concepts obtaining in a hospital environment. The course will also equip them with vision and skills to adopt evidence-based problem-solving techniques in their job place. A hospital’s structure, medical and diagnostic resources, support services, skilled manpower, financial management, material and inventory management, leadership, decision-making processes and other related issues will be the key focus.

Public Health Sector is witnessing a series of administrative and management changes. The recent stress on Quality Management Systems in healthcare and appointment of regulatory personnel like Executive District Officer, Health Administrators and Chief Executives at districts and provincial levels explain the relevance of this program. This facility extends the opportunity even to the non-medical graduates who may not have health-related management experience.

Program Objectives

Provide an insight regarding basics of Hospital Administration and modern management concepts.
Impart knowledge of hospital services and functions, apply system approach, strategic planning process and address design issues in hospital settings.
Clarify policies and issues, set objectives and define outputs for health services and hospital role in the health system and in the community.
Outline basic concepts of good governance and the ethics of public service highlighting leadership qualities and team building processes with special emphasis on the role of Chief Executive of a hospital.
Emphasize on rapid appraisal techniques, development of data collection tools for situation analysis within a hospital and their role in decision-making process.
Broaden hospital resources concepts in terms of HRM, Diagnostics, Pharmacy, Finances, Inventory Management and new emerging concepts like Telemedicine.
Focus on management issues pertaining to ambulatory care, emergency and disaster preparedness care of indoor patients and support services.
Introduce quality concepts in hospital services management with focus on QOC
Enable participants to communicate effectively and work in groups either as a leader or a team member.
Highlight hospital waste issues and suggest ways to Hospital Waste Management.
Ensure that the participants are able to conduct hospital-related projects through application of indigenous research studies.

Teaching Methodology

The learning environment will be one of the active classroom discussions involving the application of lecture material to various scenarios including class studies, assignments, presentation and study project.

At the end of each semester, there will be examination from the subjects taught during the sessions.

At the same time, new fields are required to be opened instead of stereotype slots. In today’s concept, hospital is being an industry which is expanding fast. In new hospitals, many positions are lying vacant while young people are searching for job. Sensing this, Qarshi University is introducing a new opportunity where young people will be trained to manage relations between the service providers and service seekers. They will help the management of the hospital by giving them feedback besides being the spokespersons of the organization.

Objectives

Diploma in Patient Relation is new concept that will open the doors for young, smart, and energetic people. As the name suggest it is all about managing an organization’s reputation with public in general and patient in particular. At the helm of managing a hospital’s public image is the PRO who oversees the effort of the team in maintaining a favorable image of the set up. A good PRO improve the interaction between patient and doctors, between management and attendants of the patient and within the organization amongst various groups of health care providers like doctor, nurses, paramedics, operation theater staff, other diagnostic staff, front desk people and accounts department. A good PRO is to organize meetings, public awareness programmes, manage events and act as a spokesperson of the hospital to the outside world. Pro is required to bridge the gap between service providers and service seekers. It is ideally for females by virtue of their sympathetic nature but young males, with positive attitude, will also be equally benefitted.

Teaching Methodology

Classroom studies, problem solving techniques, negotiation skills, communication skills, tutorials and visit of the hospitals.

Classes will be held in the evening, four days a week at the beautiful campus of Qarshi University which is easily accessible from Thokar Niaz Baig as regular comfortable private bus service is available.
